Warrior's Cross - Madeleine Urban I bought Warrior’s Cross when I found out Julian and Cameron show up in Armed & Dangerous in the Cut & Run series. I am someone who has to know everything there is about my book characters and I am so happy I got the chance to meet these two. It was a perfect read, a great introduction into the next book with Ty and Zane and it gave me what I needed; a break from my heart ache and a chance to just fall in love with two wonderful men as they fall in love with each other. You look at me like there’s nothing else in the world. There’s not right now, it’s Tuesday. Meet Cameron Jacobs, a head waiter at the posh eater of Tuesday’s Restaurant. We know that every Tuesday night, a tall, dark and handsome mysterious man sits in Cameron’s section. He orders the special with the house wine and always skips dessert. We also know that Cameron has a mad crush on him. We don’t know the man’s name yet, just his habits and his few words spoken in a soft voice and the intensity of his eyes when they meet Cameron. It was embarrassing enough to have a crush on a patron. It was worse to have a crush on someone who’d never actually spoken to you before. Cameron thought of the man’s time at Tuesdays as his, no matter how unrealistic it was.I love Cameron. He is so down to earth. He has a job that most do to get somewhere else yet he loves what he does. He lives alone, in a condo with four ferocious puppies that love to leave their fine hair all over his black clothes and attack pant legs. His crush on him is felt from the beginning. You FEEL it. There is no telling you what to feel; you get each emotion and feel it along with Cameron the whole time.A few Tuesday nights pass, some are filled with him and others are not. On a chance Tuesday when he is joined at his table, we learn he is named Julian. Cameron is unsure about this man, who he is and what he does with his ominous bruising and cuts but there is something that draws Cameron in regardless. A proposition is offered late Christmas Eve from Julian to Cameron, a walk in the snow with a few exchanged words and a detour from church to Cameron’s condo had me on my first swoon with this story. These two are just swoony. There is no other way to put it. They are just, sigh…Julian stared at him in open shock. “Then you’ve been fucking the wrong people,” he finally said with absolute certainty.Cameron’s head snapped up, and he boggled. “I have?” he said, voice cracking a little.“Of course,” Julian responded with a nod of his head. “Someone would have to be out of their mind not to come back to you. I walked through a blizzard to get here.”See! That right there. This book is full of moments that like that, some less intense and some more and I fell hard for it and for Julian and Cameron. Their story is simple yet complicated, like all good romances. The secrets that Julian carries about his job threaten their happiness and their future but the secrets that he keeps are what will ultimately keep Cameron safe, or so he thinks.Julian Cross, my goodness. I have dubbed him Swoony Mc. Swoonster. I haven’t come across such a character in a long time. He was so calm, so centered. Not only in his profession but with Cameron which was so important for him. Though Cameron questioned at times why Julian would want someone like him, someone “who was just a waiter” Mr. Mc. Swoonster would come off with responses like “It’s what you do, it’s not who you are,” a simple response but no less important than some long flowery speech filled with romantic sentiments. Julian calls it as he sees it. .. Julian lives in a world where it is dark, where the bad things happened even to good people but he has to do what was right, what will keep the people he loves safe. Cameron provided the “normal” for him that he was craving, that he needed. Even it was just for a couple days a week, which for Cameron was never enough. But as always you sacrifice for those you love, right?Does it matter to you that I love you?” Julian asked as he looked away.Cameron stared at Julian, “It’s the most precious thing in my world,” he answered brokenly. “Then why can’t you believe the same of me?” Julian asked softly. Julian and Cameron have their ups and downs. They have their ultimate heartbreak that had me shaking my head in utter disbelief even though I knew it wasn’t what was happening. Theirs is simply a story of love conquering all, sometimes it does happen. Sometimes it’s enough to fuel the fire, to drive that passion to want more, to risk being alone because you want it so much and hoping that one day it will come back to you and be yours.Okay, I need to stop. I could go on and on about these two all night. Warrior’s Cross was simply a beautiful and romantic read that fit perfectly where I needed it. The right book at exactly the right time, how could a girl ask for more? I cannot wait to see Julian and Cameron again in Armed & Dangerous and have a full on book orgy with them and Ty and Zane. I am not sure I handle all four at once but I am going to do my damned best.Julian stood and picked Cameron up again with a smile. “I’m thrilled,” he whispered.Cameron gasped softly in relief as he braced one hand on Julian’s shoulder. “I’m glad I made you happy.”“Well, it’s Tuesday.” Julian murmured with a smile as he slowly turned them in a circle. “You always make me happy on Tuesdays.”
